Responsible gambling

Betting should cost only what you're happy to spend on it. These are the tools we give you to keep it that way, and the people to talk to if it has stopped being fun.

Your controls

Set them once, change them any time

Everything below is in My Account under Responsible Gambling, and covers bets placed on the site and by message alike.

  • Deposit Limits

Cap what you can pay in per day, week or month. A lower limit works straight away. Raising or removing one only takes effect after a 24-hour cooling-off period.

  • Time-Out

Take a break of 24 hours, 7 days or 6 weeks. You're logged out, the messaging channel is paused, and the account can't be reopened early.

  • Self-Exclusion

Close off MessageBet for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. We stop all marketing, and after the period ends the account stays closed until you ask to reopen it.

  • GAMSTOP

A free national scheme that excludes you from every gambling site licensed in Great Britain in one go, including this one.

    gamstop.co.uk
  • Activity controls

Reality check reminders pop up at the interval you choose and show how long you've been logged in. Transaction History shows what you've deposited, staked and withdrawn.

  • Account closure

Close the account yourself in My Account, or ask support. If you're closing it because of gambling harm, choose self-exclusion instead so it can't be reopened on impulse.

Signs worth taking seriously

Gambling harm rarely arrives all at once. It tends to show up in small changes that are easy to explain away. If a few of these sound familiar, it's a good moment to set a limit or talk to someone.

  • Spending more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • Betting to win back money you've already lost.
  • Borrowing, or using money meant for bills, to gamble.
  • Hiding how much you bet from people close to you.
  • Feeling anxious or irritable when you can't bet.
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy.

If we notice something

We watch for patterns that can point to harm, such as a sharp rise in deposits or play late into the night. If we see them, we'll get in touch, and we may apply limits ourselves while we talk to you.

Keeping under-18s out

Everyone is age-checked before they can deposit. If children use your devices, keep your login details private and consider parental control software, which can block gambling sites.
